Lucet - East Indian Rosewood - LU0022

Regular price $18.00

A lucet is used for cordmaking or braiding, believed to date back to Viking and Medieval periods, when it was used to create cords that were used on clothing, or to hang items from a belt.  Lucet cord is square, strong, and slightly springy.  It resembles knitted I – cord made on a knitting spool.  Lucet cord is formed by series of loop like knots.  Unlike other braiding techniques where the threads are of a finite length, lucetted braids can be created without pre-measuring threads, so it is suited for very long cords.

Rosewood – East Indian – India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia – Heartwood can vary from golden brown to a deep purplish brown, with dark streaks.  Darkens with age, usually becoming a deep brown.  Medium texture and small pores.

I make every effort to cut and make as many lucets as possible from the same piece of wood.  Please know that the grain, texture, etc., will vary slightly between each lucet made and may vary from photos as well.
