Simply wind your yarn in the one-inch recessed space, count the wraps, check the enclosed chart and you have an approximate weight / gauge for your yarn. It also comes in handy if you misplace the band that came with your yarn. A great tool for spinners as well, make sure you are consistent with your spinning.
Maple – Big Leaf Maple – Coastal regions of Pacific North America – Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of maple is most commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood color ranges from almost white, to a light golden or reddish brown, while the heartwood is a darker reddish brown. Grain is generally straight, but may be wavy.
I turn each WPI to show the best characteristics of the wood. Even though the recessed part of each is the same one-inch space, each one will very in design.
