Simply wind your yarn in the one-inch recessed space, count the wraps, check the enclosed chart and you have an approximate weight / gauge for your yarn. It also comes in handy if you misplace the band that came with your yarn. A great tool for spinners as well, make sure you are consistent with your spinning.
Bloodwood comes from the tropical area of South America. It has a bright vivid red color. Even though the color can darken to darker brownish red over time with exposure to the sun light, it is a very nice wood. This is a very dense wood making it heavier than some woods.
